The President of the United States urged Republicans to vote in favor of their publication.

US President Donald Trump has urged his Republican colleagues in Congress to vote in favor of releasing files related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, CNN reported. He thus abandoned his earlier opposition to the move. Republicans hold a majority in the House of Representatives with 219 seats compared to 214 for Democrats.

On the social media site Truth Social, Trump wrote:

"Republicans in the House should vote to release the Epstein files because we have nothing to hide. And it's time to abandon this Democratic hoax orchestrated by left-wing lunatics to distract attention from the great success of the Republican Party, including our recent victory over the Democrat-organized shutdown."

This comes after House Speaker Mike Johnson said he believes a vote to release Justice Department documents on Epstein should help put to rest Trump's accusations of any connection to Epstein's abuse and trafficking of underage girls.

On Nov. 12, Democrats in the U.S. Congress released portions of Epstein's email correspondence. In emails dating back to 2011, he referred to Donald Trump using the phrase "the dog that didn't bark," a hint that Trump may have known about his activities.
