In 2026, the FRG decided to increase aid to Kiev by 3 billion euros.
The German Cabinet intends to increase financial aid to Ukraine by €3 billion in 2026, Handelsblatt reports, citing German government sources.
Handelsblatt's sources said Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil together with Defense Ministry chief Boris Pistorius will propose additional funds to support Ukraine when parliament considers the 2026 budget bill.
The money is to go toward the purchase of artillery, drones and armored vehicles, as well as the replacement of two Patriot SAMs. A government source told Reuters that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz supported the additional funds for these purposes as proposed.
The previous version of the 2026 budget bill allocated €8.5 billion for Ukraine. The Bundestag is expected to finally approve the document next week.
Germany is Europe's largest donor of military aid to Ukraine, Reuters notes: according to the agency, Berlin has allocated about €40 billion to Kiev since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022.
