The White House Acknowledged Republicans' Mistakes In Local Elections

In New York, New Jersey, and Virginia, Democrats won.

After local elections in several states, officials in the White House have recognized that the Republican Party is losing voter support due to a lack of focus on domestic policy.

According to Politico, the US president's team believes he is too focused on foreign issues, while Americans are concerned about problems at home.

"The excessive focus on foreign policy, when people are suffering at home, has brought exactly the results that could be expected," said the publication's interlocutor close to the White House.

Voters expect action on prices and social supports

Americans are increasingly dissatisfied with rising prices, cuts to food programs and the threat of losing health subsidies, according to the publication.

One of the administration's political advisers noted that the president "hasn't talked about the cost of living in months," while citizens want to see concrete solutions.

"People are still hurting financially and want to know that the White House is paying attention to that," Politico noted.

James Blair, deputy White House chief of staff, promised that Donald Trump would return to social and economic issues soon.

"You'll see the president talk a lot about the cost of living as we enter the new year," Blair said.

U.S. Vice President Jay Dee Vance also emphasized that Republicans should "focus on domestic issues."

"We inherited a disaster from Biden, but we will continue to make life more affordable for Americans," he added.

Democrats win local elections

As we previously wrote, the Democratic Party won a number of important victories in the November 4 vote:

New York City's Zogran Mamdani became mayor of New York City,

New Jersey's Mikey Sherrill became governor of New Jersey,

Virginia's Abigail Spanberger won.

In November 2026, the United States will hold midterm elections for Congress. The lower house, the House of Representatives, will be re-elected outright, while the upper house, the Senate, will be re-elected by a third.
