U.S. President Donald Trump called former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's announcement that she will resign after her term ends in 2027 a great event for the United States.
"Nancy Pelosi's resignation is a great event for America," he was quoted by Fox News.
The publication also says the U.S. leader called Pelosi "evil," "corrupt" and "focused only on bad things" for the country.
Fox News notes that Pelosi served as Trump's "chief antagonist" during his first term as president.
On Thursday, Nov. 6, the 85-year-old Pelosi announced that will not run for Congress after her term ends in 2027.
Pelosi's term ends in early January 2027. She has served in the U.S. Congress for 38 years.
Nancy Pelosi is a member of the U.S. Democratic Party. She was first elected as a member of the House of Representatives from California in 1987. Since then, she has been re-elected 20 times.
In 2007, Pelosi became the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House of Representatives. After Republicans won the midterm elections in 2010, she led the minority caucus.
In 2019, Pelosi again took over as speaker of the lower house of Congress and held the post until 2023. In 2024, she was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for the 20th time.
