About 5 thousand Lithuanian tractors and semi-trailers are stuck in Belarus.
The Šalčininkai checkpoint (Beniakoni on the Belarus side) remains closed, said Ignas Dobrovolskas, an adviser to Lithuania's prime minister. Belarus on Friday night refused to temporarily open it, LRT reported.
The Šalčininkai border crossing point remains closed, but the government continues to look for ways to help Lithuanian carriers reclaim their property. Lithuania encourages its carriers to collect information about the losses incurred, which, after assessing legal possibilities, could be recovered from Belarus or its managed property," Dobrovolskas said.
Dobrovolskas said the Belarusian authorities continue to create artificial obstacles for Lithuanian and European companies to return their property - cargo transport from the territory of Belarus. "The checkpoints were closed in response to the hybrid attack against Lithuania, due to which civil aviation was threatened, several dozens of regular flights were affected and several tens of thousands of passengers suffered," he commented.
About 5,000 Lithuanian tractor-trailers and semi-trailers are stuck in Belarus, and Minsk prohibits their movement through the country. Lithuania expressed hope that the Shalchininkai ("Beniakoni") point, despite the border closed until November 30, would be temporarily opened for the passage of trucks, but on Thursday, Belarusian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ruslan Varankov said that Belarus refuses to do so.
