U.S. General: Putin Will Agree To A Pause In The War Only On One Condition

A key factor of pressure on the Kremlin has been named.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will not consider any ceasefire as long as he is convinced that the West may "give up" or lack the resolve to support Ukraine. Retired Lieutenant General Ben Hodges, former commander of U.S. Army Forces in Europe, said this in an interview with "Channel 24".

When the Kremlin might pause in the war

Hodges said the chance for a cease-fire will only come when Russia realizes it is incapable of winning. And this is possible only if the United States and European allies openly declare their readiness to provide Ukraine with all the necessary arsenal - from weapons to economic support.

General emphasized: if Washington and London demonstrate maximum determination, and Europe increases sanctions pressure and transfers frozen Russian assets to Ukraine, the Kremlin will be forced to reconsider its calculations.

Pressure on the Russian economy is a key factor

Hodges separately emphasized the importance of strikes on Russian oil and gas infrastructure. In his opinion, if Ukraine continues to deliberately weaken Russia's energy sector, it will be much harder for Russia to finance the war next year.

"Only when Putin realizes he is losing will he start thinking about a ceasefire," the general summarized.
