KVN Star Valeriy Khait Died
VALERIY KHAIT

He was the captain of the Odesa national team.

Writer, journalist, playwright and TV presenter Valeriy Khait died at the age of 86 yesterday, on February 1 in Odesa. This was reported by Russian satirist Viktor Shenderovich on his social media.

“He died — on the day of Putin’s latest attacks on his native Odesa. He was a golden man and one of the symbols of this city. More than half a century ago — the only thing that could pull me out of the football field was that KVN: Kharechko, Khait, Akselrod… That window of intelligence and freedom. Blessed memory, dear Valeriy Isaakovich. And — forgive us, poor murderers,” Shenderovich wrote.

Khait became interested in KVN while studying at the Civil Engineering Institute. He was the captain of the Odesa KVN team in 1966-1970. He was also the artistic director of the KVN champion teams from Odesa: “Business People” (won in 1972) and “Odesa Gentlemen” (won in 1987).

He was also known as the father of Rostislav Khait, the founder of the comic theater “Quartet I”.
