There was a leak of liquid ammonia on the tanker Eco Wizard at the largest seaport on the Baltic, Ust-Luga, the Russian Transport Ministry said. The cause was some kind of "incident during loading and unloading operations".
23 crew members were evacuated. It is claimed there were no injuries. The agency described the leak as "insignificant" but held an operational meeting on the issue, chaired by Transportation Ministry head Roman Starovoit. Emergency services of the terminal are engaged in liquidation of consequences of the incident, also the vessel should be examined by divers.
The source of portal 78.ru reported that in the port of Ust-Luga depressurization of the tanker with ammonia, as a result the fuel ended up in the bay. According to the interlocutor, "external impact" is considered as the cause. The governor of the Leningrad region Alexander Drozdenko assured that there is no threat to people and the environment: environmental indicators are within the permissible concentration. According to him, specialists have collected ammonia without allowing the substance to disperse into the atmosphere. Drozdenko added that an inspection on the causes of the incident is underway.
