An Explosion Occurred On A Tanker In The Russian Port Of Ust-Luga

Ammonia leak detected.

Russia's Transportation Ministry has reported a "minor leak of liquid ammonia during a loading incident" on the ammonia tanker Eco Wizard. The Situation and Information Center of the Ministry of Transport has already held an operational meeting under the leadership of Minister Roman Starovoit.

"Emergency services of the terminal are currently engaged in liquidation of the consequences of the incident. The forces and means of the Baltic branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Morspassluzhba" have been brought to full readiness for rescue operations. Diving inspection of the vessel is planned. The crew of 23 people has been evacuated and is in the port, there are no casualties. Further loading of cargo was promptly stopped", - the official report says.

Telegram channel "MNS | Moscow - News - Events" with reference to its sources writes that on board the ship there was an explosion during the work on pumping ammonia at the terminal of JSC "MCC Eurochem". Because of this, holes appeared in the hull of the ammonia carrier, through which water began to pour, now the ship continues to sink, its crew evacuated to shore. According to Marine Traffic, Eco Wizard sails under the flag of the Marshall Islands and arrived in Ust-Luga from Belgium.

Since the beginning of the year, this is the sixth tanker that entered Russian ports and suffered as a result of the explosion. The previous one was the tanker Vilamoura, the explosion occurred off the coast of Libya. It was carrying about one million barrels of oil.
