Palestine Has Been Recognized By Four More European Countries

They joined a similar decision by France, Britain, Canada and Australia.

Belgium, Monaco, Malta and Luxembourg have recognized the independence of the Palestinian state. The countries joined a similar decision by France, Britain, Canada and Australia.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the live broadcast of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.

At the UN General Assembly summit, four other European countries announced the recognition of Palestine as an independent state.

Belgium

Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever said his country joins other states in recognizing the Palestinian state.

"Belgium today sends a strong political and diplomatic signal to the world by joining the group of countries that have announced recognition of the State of Palestine," the head of state said during the speech.

At the same time, the Belgian leader added that legal recognition of the Palestinian state can only come "after the release of all hostages and the removal of all terrorist organizations such as Hamas from the governance of Palestine."

Monaco

The Principality of Monaco also joined more than 145 other countries that have recognized the Palestinian state.

Prince Albert II noted during his address to the General Assembly that from the beginning, his country has defended Israel's right "to live within and enjoy security within secure and recognized borders," as well as "the right of the Palestinian people to a sovereign, viable and democratic state."

"Today we want to reaffirm our unwavering support for the existence of Israel, as well as recognize Palestine as a state in accordance with international law," he said.

Prince Albert II emphasized the importance of finding a "balanced and sustainable" solution to end the conflict - after "the release of all hostages and once Hamas is disarmed."

Talking about the two-state solution, the prince said Monaco reaffirms that the decision "is based on the existence of two national entities."

Malta

Palestinian statehood has also been recognized by Malta.

"Let me begin by stating clearly and unequivocally: The Republic of Malta proudly reaffirms the official recognition of Palestinian statehood," said the country's Prime Minister Robert Abela.

He noted that Malta also supports Israel's right to exist alongside a democratic Palestinian state.

Abela added that a two-state solution would be the "worst possible outcome" for Hamas and that Hamas should play no role in a future Palestinian government.

"If Palestinians see a peaceful and realistic path to statehood and self-determination, it will fatally undermine Hamas's strong appeals," the prime minister said.

Luxembourg

Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden said his country would officially recognize a Palestinian state and that the decision was the beginning of a "commitment to hope."

"This is the beginning of a renewed commitment to hope, a commitment to diplomacy, dialogue, coexistence and a two-state solution. To the idea that is fragile but still possible, that peace can win," Frieden said.

Speaking at the UN General Assembly summit, the prime minister recalled the history of the UN and said the decision to recognize Palestinian statehood, was in line with the values enshrined by the coalition.

"There are moments in history when the cause of peace requires both moral clarity and political courage," Frieden began his speech, noting that today is "just such a moment in history."

He said Luxembourg believes "that the two-state solution remains the only viable path to lasting peace," and pledged that his country would act as a partner for peace.

Frieden reiterated that this is "not a decision against Israel or its people," nor is it a move to "reward violence."
