The Sun: Ukraine Has Opened A New Front In The War

The "heart" of Putin's war machine is being destroyed.

An expert explained what Ukraine is trying to achieve by striking Russian oil and gas facilities.

Ukraine is dealing a serious blow to the Russian economy by attacking oil and gas facilities. In a carefully planned campaign, the Ukrainians have inflicted about $100 billion worth of damage on Russia, writes The Sun.

Ukraine is striking at the "heart" of the Russian economy

Military intelligence expert Philip Ingraham said in a conversation with reporters that Ukrainian ingenuity is striking at the "heart" of the Russian economy. He said the precision strikes on oil and gas facilities are aimed at destabilizing Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's war machine.

"Long-range drones flying 1,000 kilometers or more would turn Russia's vast oil and gas empire into a chain of hellfire," the expert said.

Ingram acknowledged that while the plan is a bold gamble, it is an ingenious move aimed at "communicating the reality of war to the Russians." Nevertheless, the consequences for the Russian Federation are not limited to inconvenience in the daily lives of citizens.

The expert shared that the Ukrainian strikes could cause serious fuel shortages. He believes this could put tremendous pressure on the Kremlin's ability to continue the war against Ukraine.

The publication noted that Russian energy exports accounted for 40 percent of the budget before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Nevertheless, even with Western sanctions in place, oil and gas exports still account for 30% of Russia's revenues.

"Ukraine, taking aim at Russian oil, is making a direct hit on the logistical artery of the invasion. The aim is to cut funding for the war. Strikes on oil refineries are a direct hit on Kremlin revenues," Ingraham explained.

The expert believes such operations have not been carried out without help from Ukraine's allies.

"Ukrainian intelligence, likely with the assistance of Western partners and insiders on the ground, has identified the most important and vulnerable parts of each facility," Ingraham said.

The consequences of Ukrainian strikes for Russia

The expert said the main goal of Ukrainian operations is to hit complex, expensive and practically irreplaceable oil refining installations. He emphasized that such installations most often require special Western technologies, which Russia is not so easy to obtain because of sanctions.

"Repairing one of these installations is not a matter of a few weeks. It's a matter of months, if not years," the expert revealed.

Ingram said that even a single attack with a cheap drone could cause billions of dollars worth of damage to Russia and paralyze a facility that contributes enormously to Moscow's military efforts. He said this is the exact definition of asymmetric warfare.

The expert does not rule out that serious economic problems could lead to destabilization in Russian society. He stated that Putin's greatest fear is an uprising of the Russian people.

"Ukraine's message is clear and audible in Moscow: 'We can hurt you, this war will cost your economy and your people dearly,'" Ingraham emphasized.
