Washington will maintain its blockade of Iranian ports until an agreement is reached.

US President Donald Trump has said the United States will not "rush into an agreement" with Iran, adding that the US blockade of Iranian ports will remain in "full force" until a deal is reached.

He wrote this on Truth Social.

"The negotiations are proceeding in an orderly and constructive manner and I have informed my representatives to take their time to reach an agreement as time is on our side," Trump wrote on Sunday.

"Both sides must take their time and do the right thing. There can be no mistakes! Our relationship with Iran is becoming much more professional and productive," he added.

Trump reiterated that Iran must understand "that it cannot develop or acquire a nuclear weapon or bomb."

The day before the US president said that an agreement between the US and Iran was "basically agreed" and that the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened, signaling a possible push to end a war that has been going on for months.
