RDK Commander: A Second Front May Be Opened From Belarus In The Chernihiv Area

Russia may attempt to open a new offensive direction from Belarusian territory in order to change the current situation on the front. According to the commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps Denis Kapustin, this scenario cannot be ruled out, since Minsk is under the Kremlin’s strong influence.
He expressed this view in an interview with a reporter from “Novosti.LIVE”. According to him, Russia may attempt to open a new front from the Chernihiv region, using Belarusian territory for this purpose.
It is believed that one of the possible goals of such a move is to disrupt the current balance of power on the front lines. Kapustin also noted that he does not rule out an attack from Belarus and considers this scenario entirely plausible.
“We may be facing the opening of a new front near Chernihiv, which borders the Republic of Belarus. Unfortunately, it is quite possible that we will face an attack from that direction, as this is also one way to disrupt the current balance of power,” stated the RDK commander.
In addition, the RDK commander stated that following the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, he no longer considers any possible scenario impossible. In his view, the war has already proven that even unlikely scenarios can become reality.
In fact, Lukashenko is dependent on Russia and does not have complete autonomy in matters of military policy. That is precisely why, he said, the Kremlin is able to influence Minsk’s decisions.
During a conversation with a journalist, he mentioned the recent meeting between Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko in Valdai. Kapustin noted that the talks were supposed to last only a few hours but dragged on for two days. He speculated that the Russian dictator might have been trying to convince Lukashenko of the need for more proactive measures, although there is no evidence to support this.
“We can only speculate about what happened there. But, by all accounts, Vladimir Vladimirovich was convincing Lukashenko that he has no other options. I think that’s the essence of this meeting,” Kapustin said.
In addition, Kapustin reported that territorial defense units are currently conducting exercises in Belarus. According to him, airborne assault groups are also being formed there. He believes these measures may indicate preparations for one of several possible scenarios, but did not provide evidence that they constitute direct preparations for a new offensive.
As a reminder, Belarus continues to form a fourth airborne assault brigade, which is planned to be stationed near Gomel, less than 40 km from the border with Ukraine. The creation of the new unit has already begun: the first battalion has been formed, and recruitment is underway.
