Where’s Yury Zakharanka?

Period of investigation in the case of former internal affairs minister Yury Zakharanka ends on 24 December. The investigation in the politician’s case was extended by 3 months in September.

Human right activist Aleg Vouchak was said about it in the Minsk prosecutor’s office. The letter from prosecutor’s office doesn’t clarify what investigative activity in this case is conducted.

It should be reminded that Yury Zakharanka, minister of internal affairs and one of the oppositional leaders disappeared in May, 1999. Many people in Belarus and all over the world think he was kidnapped on political motivated grounds and probably killed. The Belarusian authorities declare the investigation is not completed and reasons for kidnapping of Y. Zakharanka as well as his destiny are unknown.

The international community suspects high ranked Belarusian officials are involved in disappearance of the general and other oppositionists.
