Lukashenka: “We are more ready for EU admission than Poland and Baltic states”

Belarus and the EU should develop a dialogue. Such an opinion has been expressed by the head of the state Alyaksandr Lukashenka in an interview to the Spanish newspaper El Pais, BelTA was informed in the press-service of the Belarusian leader.

“EU countries can raise problems vitally important for them, without interfering in our domestic affairs, at least at this stage. It is very important for the EU not to build an iron curtain around Belarus, and to develop our dialogue,” the leader of the state said.

“Today Europe does not want normalization of relations with Belarus, because once they have gone too far, and now they need to ride out the situation saving face. If the EU will be bold enough to do so, we shall sit around one table and conduct dialogue, if we want to become closer. We want that and we are talking about that everywhere. And the EU doesn’t want so, and they offer us unacceptable conditions. Why conditions should determine our dialogue? It is not needed,” Alyaksandr Lukashenka underlined.

As said by him, Belarus ahs made many steps forward to the European Union, which have been ignored by the EU. “We shall consider them (EU conditions), but I am not sure that if these conditions would be met, the European would respond. Europeans do not have a serious approach to Belarus, maybe except for Germany which has a more pragmatic position and which tries to understand the situation. German policy is moderate, and proceeds from the real situation. Opposition should exist in any democratic state, but Germans see drawback of our opposition and ask themselves whether they act properly towards us. I cannot say the same about the others. There is nothing left for us except wait and watch. We are more prepared for the EU admission than Poland or the Baltic states,” Lukashenka noted.
