New appointments by Obama: Hillary Clinton to be US Secretary of State

President-elect Barack Obama unveiled his national-security team this morning.

Obama introduced Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton as secretary of state, bringing on board the candidate who battled him for the Democratic presidential nomination during the primary season.

Robert Gates, heading Pentagon under George Bush, preserves his post.

61-year old former first lady of America is New York senator and Robert Gates takes office of US Defense Secretary.

Obama also announced that he has chosen Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano as secretary of homeland security. James Jones has been appointed national security adviser.

Mr. Obama also named Eric Holder as attorney general. As ITAR-TASS reports, Holder is former Clinton administration Deputy Attorney General. 57-year old Holder will become the first Afro-American at the post of attorney general of the United States.

Paul Volcker, former Federal Reserve chairman, has been appointed head of the President's Economic Recovery Advisory Board.

Mr Obama named 39-year old Peter Orszag for office of management and budget director.

47-year old Timothy Geithner, the New York Federal Reserve's president who has been nominated for Treasury Secretary.

Larry Summers has been offered a post of head the National Economic Council.

Melody Barnes will be director of the White House Domestic Policy Council.

All candidatures are to be approved by the US Senate after Barack Obama takes the post and is able to introduce the candidatures for the Senate’s confirmation.

Inauguration ceremony of the new US President’s will take place on January 20, 2009.
