On December 9 three “Young Front” activists from Brest were detained during the rally in support of “Narodnaya Volya” newspaper.
“The aim of the rally is to attract attention of dwellers of the regional capital that this newspaper is received by the state-run Belsayuzdruk retail network, and that it is possible to subscribe for it,” the BelaPAN was informed by one of the participants of the rally Andrei Sharenda.
As said by him, the rally was held at 12 noon – 1 p.m. in Pushkinskaya Street, one of the busiest streets of the city. Activists handed out about a thousand of copies of the newspaper’s old issues.
At about 12.30 policemen approached them. They wanted to know what printed materials were distributed by the young people. Participants of the action were taken to a police department, and after they submitted explanations, they were released.
As we have informed, the regime has allowed independent newspapers “Nasha Niva” and “Narodnaya Volya” to return into the state-run retail network under harsh economic and legal conditions.
