Belarusian Association of Journalists requires Prosecutor General not to hinder work of journalists

The Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) appealed today to Prosecutor General of Belarus Ryhor Vasilevich on the occasion of the searches, carried out by KGB officers in offices and apartments of independent journalists on 27 and 28 March.

The BAJ insists that “lawfulness should be re-established, seized property should be given back, and right and legal interests of journalists should be defended.” Copies of the appeal were sent to head of the Belarusian KGB Yury Zhadobin and prosecutor of Minsk Mikalai Kulik.

Having learnt texts of order on investigatory inspection in apartments of journalists and final reports, the organisation expresses doubt the searches were conducted on lawful and reasonable grounds.
