Famous artist Ales Pushkin is to have trial at 11.00am on 3 May. He will be tried for a performance dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Belarusian National Republic.
Pushkin planned to have a performance on 25 March, but had to postpone it, as his house was besieged by militia. The performance took place on the Bobr central square on 27 March. The artist installed a table on the square, put a cottage loaf on it, and was going to serve round the local dwellers. Ales Pushkin also set a Belarusian national court-of-arms Pahonya (Chase) and unfurled two flags near the table – a national white-red-white and a EU ones.
The artist came to the square with his family – his wife and a little child, but militia drove up to the place of holding this harmless festive action. They brutally detained Pushkin.
The artist didn’t have trial at once, but was summoned to court only in a month.
The Belarusian authorities have adopted a strange position. From the one hand they take saving loans from the European Union countries. But from the other hand they try their citizens for a European flag.
