Solidarity wins dictatorship

5

The Day of Belarusian Solidarity is traditionally marked in Belarus on 16 June. Actions calling on the authorities to release prisoners of conscience and stop repressions against the opposition will be held in the country and abroad. The biggest abroad actions are to be organised near Belarusian embassies in The Hague and Washington.

Our some citizens will light candles of solidarity in their houses while the others will take to squares to pay tribute to the memory of the disappeared and repressed people and call on the authorities to start democratic reforms in the country.

Street actions of solidarity, conferences, exhibitions, film presentations, dedicated to Belarus will take place on 16 June in many countries of the world - Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Russia, France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and the USA.

In particular, big actions are expected on 16 June near Belarusian embassies in The Hague (the Netherlands) and Washington (the USA). As the website of the action organisers, the civil initiative “We remember” reports, peaceful demonstrations with relatives of the forcefully disappeared Yury Zakharanka, Viktar Hanchar, Anatol Krasouski, Zmitser Zavadski, political prisoners Alyaksandr Kazulin, Syarhei Parsyukevich, Andrei Kim, with all victims of the “last Europe’s dictatorship” will take place in these cities from 4.00 pm to 5.oo pm (local time).

It is civil Solidarity that wins any dictatorship. When not tens and hundreds of Brave people, but tens and hundreds of thousands of Unindifferent citizens will come to streets and squares of our cites, the regime will be defeated. Because any dictator is powerless in face of the Solidarity of their citizens in the oppression to dictatorial regime. Let’s show the Solidarity with those, who scare the regime!

In November the United States of America slapped sanctions against Belneftekhim concern’s enterprises due to refusal of the authorities to release political prisoners. On 15 May they imposed economic sanctions on three more Belarusian enterprises – Belarusian Oil Trade House, Lakokraska and Steklovolokno. The European Union extended ban for entry the EU countries for Belarusian officials, responsible for violation of human rights in Belarus. The adopted in May resolution of the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly calls to release political prisoners, too. Last week the USA and the EU issued a joint statement repeating their demand on immediate and unconditional release of all Belarusian political prisoners.
