Judgement to political prisoner Parsyukevich appealed

An appeal from the judgement to Vitsebsk businessman Syarhei Parsyukevich has been addressed to the chairman of Minsk city court.

The appeal has been filed in exercise of supervisory functions on June 13. “As soon as an answer will be received by me from the chairman of the city court, I am set to write an appeal to the Supreme Court of Belarus,” a lawyer Vera Stramkouskaya told to BelaPAN.

As we have informed, one of the leaders of the movement of businessmen, a political prisoner Syarhei Parsyukevich had been sentenced to 2.5 years of imprisonment on April 23 for participation in a protest rally of market vendors in Minsk on January 10. When he served the administrative arrest in the detention centre in Minsk, he was brutally beaten up by an officer of the prison Alyaksandr Dulub, but in order to avoid a punishment, the officer charged Parsyukevich with attacking him.

Release of S. Parsyukevich, as well as a release of other political prisoners including the former presidential candidate Alyaksandr Kazulin and a young activist Andrei Kim is demanded by the EU and the US.
