Crackdown on opposition continues: new searches

In Belarus searches in apartments of democratic activists continue in Belarus in connection to the blast on July 4 in Minsk.

As the BelaPAN was told by a member of the presidium of the Belarusian Social Democratic party (Hramada) Anatol Sidarevich, on July 15 in the evening a search was held at the place of the primary organisation of the Belarusian Social Democratic party (Hramada) of Kastrychnitski district of Mahilyou Uladzimir Yurchanka.

“On July 15 in the evening policemen and a man in mufti went to him. They showed a prosecutor’s sanction and a search warrant. As was told by law-enforcers, a signal was received that Yurchanka owns some explosive substances. However they have found nothing,” A. Sidarevich said.

As said by the human rights activist, a search at the place of the former member of an unregistered organisation “Right Alliance” Yury Karetnikau. He has also been given a search warrant by policemen and KGB men who visited his apartment.

According to the latest information of human rights activists, 10 persons are still imprisoned in the case of the blast on July 4 in Minsk.

On July 12 in the evening an activist of the youth organisation of the United Civil party “Young Democrats” Alyaksandr Serhiyenka, an activist of he civil campaign “European Belarus” Paval Kuryanovich and a leader of an unregistered Belarusian Freedom party Syarhei Vysotski were released from the remand prison of the KGB. Besides, on July 15 a citizen of Russia Vladimir Belonin was released from the demand prison of the Internal Affairs department of Minsk city executive committee.
