4

Head of the Hrodna region KGB directorate goes to law “in the interests of the state” asking to recognise an issue of unregistered “Svaboda” newspaper extremist.

As KGB officer I. P. Syarhienka thinks the newspaper “contains information of open anti-Belarusian character, aimed at discredit of main directions of inner and foreign policy of the Republic of Belarus. Its articles contains materials, promoting extremist activity and genocide of the Ossetian people by Georgian authorities, human rights center Viasna reports.

Taking into account previous information about filing appropriate claims to court by Hrodna KGB, the regional secret services are conducting an operation directed at suppression of freedom of speech and against opponents of the authorities during the election campaign.”
