Student threatened with expulsion for protest against economic policy of authorities

6

Student of Salihorsk Economic College Illya Kavalei was threatened with expulsion after he had applied the city executive committee for a picket on January 26.

The rally is to be held in protest of vulnerability of Belarusian citizens from economic policy of the authorities.

Two weeks after the activist, had filed an application, the administration of the college had a conversation with the young man. The guy was threatened with expulsion from the college in best case. If the young man doesn’t recall his application for a picket, he may be found illegal drugs on him, or anything else may happen to him, Saligorsk.org reports.

Besides, the head master phoned to the guy’s parents and asked about political view of the activist and promised to expel the young man from the college, though he studied well and didn’t miss classes.

As the student explained, his relatives and friends suffered from the devaluation. Having trusted the authorities, they kept money in Belarusian rubles, and had lost millions. They supported the young man and promised to attend the picket.

The student didn’t expect such a rapid and inadequate reaction of the college administration because he is a student of the law faculty and knows he has a legal right for a picket, guaranteed by laws, the Constitution, and international agreements.

If the activist will suffer from pressure, he is going to appeal to the prosecutor’s office, and is ready to go to law to maintain his rights if necessary.
