Video clip about Belarusian political prisoners appeared on the web (Video)

A video clip dedicated to 14 young persons convicted for participation in peaceful protest rallies appeared on Youtube.

The author of the clip, a user joooshka, draws attention to the fates of people, sentences to “restriction of freedom”. He called this measure of restraint “home GULAG”.

“In October 2008 the European Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner gave a reward to the last dictatorship in Europe. The award was given to Alyaksandr Lukashenka for invention of the “home GULAG”, the beginning of the video clip goes.

The author most likely meant suspension of visa sanctions against the Belarusian officials, despite of the fact that more than ten persons in the country remain sentenced to “restriction of freedom”. People sentenced to this measure of restraint cannot go abroad, or to be candidates in elections, change place of residence without authorization of police, participate in the public life. They are to allow policemen enter their apartments any time. In fact, it is home arrest, when a person can stay only at home and at work. Criminal proceedings can be initiated against these people for any little infringements of the regime.

As we have informed, Alyaksei Bondar, Artsyom Dubski, Mikhas Kryvau, Mikhas Pashkevich, Alyaksandr Straltsou, Alyaksandr Charnyshou, Tatsyana Tsishkevich, Mikhas Subach, and Paval Vinahradau are sentenced to 2 years of restraint of liberty without sending to penal facilities for participation in protest rallies of entrepreneurs. Minor Maksim Dashuk is sentenced to 1.5 year of restraint of liberty. In Ddecember 2008, Alyaksandr Barazenka, activist of the civil campaign “European Belarus”, got 1 year of restraint of liberty for the same rally.
