Lyavon Barshcheuski: “Lukashenka is trading Belarus’ independence”

11

Leaders of the Belarusian opposition protest against creation of the common regional air defence system of Belarus and Russia.

The chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front Party Lyavon Barshscheuski has made a statement in connection with signing a document on creation of the “united regional air defence system” by Lukashenka in Moscow on February 3.

“Instead of admitting bankruptcy of his team, the ruler of the country starts looking for a way out frantically, trading independence of Belarus, which is not only a of today’s wealth, but a precious capital for future generations of our country,” Barshcheuski stated.

“Needless to say,” the politician adds, “that the decision to subordinate Belarusian air defence forces to Russian command is anti-Western, anti-European move, which demonstrates hypocrisy of the Belarusian authorities, who state necessity to “improve relations with the European Union and other countries of the West”. Both Lukashenka and people in his entourage know perfectly well that there is no military threat either from the East or from the West for Belarus, and it won’t arise in the future undeniably”.

“Creation of the new “configuration” of the air defence system would evidently demand new funds from the pockets of tax payers, which looks especially cynical in the period of the global economic crisis,” Barshcheuski says.

The chairman of the BPF finds actions of the Belarusian regime – signing the document on “Regional air defence system” – a demonstration of political infantilism of those Belarusian politicians who believe that Lukashenka and Co. can make a “turn to the West”.

“In the democratic countries of the world important decisions in the military and political sphere are adopted as a result of wide public discussions with participation of different political entities. The Belarusian regime, which for almost more than 15 years is playing dangerous “allies’ agreements” and other political games, deserves only one thing – immediate resignation. The new democratic parliamentary and presidential elections should bring the country to creation of the government of national confidence,” stresses the chairman of the Belarusian People’s Front.
