Authorities continue mass fingerprinting

12

In recent days male population of the town of Masty started to receive writs with a demand to visit the police department of Masty for fingerprinting.

As informed by the European Radio For Belarus, writs are received by men who haven’t passed this procedure yet.

It should be noted that in March 2009 an activist of For Freedom movement Ales Zarembiuk received an answer for his address to the police department of Masty, in which he demanded to explain reasons of mass fingerprinting. In their answer policemen from Masty admitted that the procedure is not of binding nature.

As we have informed, mass illegal fingerprinting of men in Belarus started after the blast on July 4 in Minsk. Fingerprinting is made after people are invited to military enlistment office, or receive writs from police. Besides, the Interior Affairs Ministry started to carry out fingerprinting of minors in secondary education institutions.
