Christian democrats go to law against Belarusian TV

3

Leaders of the organizing committee on creation of the Belarusian Christian Democracy were insulted by an item about the organization activity shown on the First TV Channel.

Paval Sevyarynets, a co-head of the BCD organizing committee, said the committee leaders were going to go to law against the First National Channel of the Belarusian TV, BelaPAN reports.

According to him, the programme Panorama of the First Channel on September 27 showed an item touching honour and dignity of the BCD organizers. The item was repeated in the morning of September 28. As Sevyarynets states, the essence of the item was that the BCD is a “sectarian organization, and views of its members are far from Christian values.”

“We think an attempt to discredit the BCD now is not occasional: were preparing for another founding congress. We are especially indignant because the item was shown together with a report about a visit of Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill to Belarus,” Sevyarynets told.

He also noted that the number of people willing to join the BCD had increased four times recently. The BCD carried out a number of successful campaigns, one of them was a campaign against occultism in mass media, which was supported by legislative acts. “This caused hatred of the Belarusian TV,” Sevyarynets thinks.

“Normal people in Belarus know: listen to Belarusian TV and act in the other way. If they said the ruble is stable, you should expect devaluation. If they tarnish the BCD, it means you should join the Christian Democrats,” Sevyarynets told.

They plan to make a claim on Wednesday, September 30, the politician said.

We remind that the founding congress on creation of the Belarusian Christian Democracy was held in Minsk on February 28, 2009. On May 12, the Ministry of Justice of Belarus refused to register the party, and on July 22, the Supreme Court of Belarus dismissed the claim of the organizing committee on BCD creation because the party wasn’t registered by the Ministry of Justice. The new founding congress is scheduled for October 31–November 1 2009 in Minsk.
