Pensions could be cut for working pensioners

20

The government has stated its intention to reconsider approaches to paying pensions to working pensioners.

As stated by the deputy Labour and Social Defence Minister Valyantsina Karalyova, as three are rumours in the society that working pensioners would have to sacrifice their pension, “pensioners should probably understand themselves that such a situation when they receive salaries almost completely without any special limitations, cannot last endlessly”.

Karalyova stated that the ministry works on the “problem of payments to working pensioners”. She underlined that pensioners wouldn’t have top choose between the salary and the pension.

“It is likely to be taken well if emphasis would be placed on income from all sources,” she noted. Thus, if a pensioner works for a low salary and has a non- prestigious job, his or her pension would be probably kept.

As said by the deputy minister, the Labour Ministry is to study all the variants of this problem’s solution, and to launch an initiative, however in 2009-2010 there would be no changes in the approaches to paying pensions for working pensioners.
