Through the year 2009 riot policemen had been disbanding all solidarity rallies.
Young activists were beaten up and arrested, or herded for several kilometers away from October Square in the direction of Zhdanovichy market. In the provinces rallies in support of political prisoners were cracked down by policemen as well.
