“You’ve arrived late, people very nearly got to blows in morning” (Photo)

Such words were told to a correspondent of “Salidarnasts” from a woman who “have been keeping vigil” near the currency exchange office since Saturday, March 12.

On Monday March 14, having visited 7 currency exchange offices in the district of Serabranka, a reporter of “Salidarnasts” saw for himself that dollars and euro are in a real deficit in the country.

The information about shortage of foreign currency in exchange offices appeared last week in parallel with rumours that US dollar is going to hit 3,800 Br.

To the question whether dollars are on sale, workers of the exchange offices give a standard answer: “Everything has been bought up in the morning already, and no new currency incoming is expected.” In order to buy dollars in exchange offices, one has to stand in a queue, waiting for someone to sell currency. Some people are even talking about emergence of long-forgotten speculators in foreign currency with handbags, but the reporter has not seen ones.

Among frequenters of queues are old ladies, pensioners who are attentively observing those who are selling dollars. As said by the old ladies, in the morning an din the evening there is boom. In the lunch time office workers join the queues too.

“You have come late, and in the morning people very nearly got to blows,” assured one of the pensioners. “Everyone has heard about an imminent dollar exchange rate growth, that is why we are standing here: we are afraid to lose our savings.”

At the same time, the exchange rate of the US dollar in all exchange offices is between 3,040-3,080 Br, and as said by one of the bank tellers in Tekhnobank, information about increase has not been received still. However people seem not to believe these words apparently.
