Atroshchankau’s relatives to appeal from judgement at Supreme Court

Relatives of Alyaksandr Atroshchankau, the spokesperson of Andrei Sannikov, a presidential candidate, are set to appeal against the verdict issued to him in the Supreme Court.

Atroshchankau’s wife Darya Korsak has told about that in an interview to BelaPAN.

She hoped that on April 5, during hearings in the causational appeal of Atroshchankau by Minsk city court, the sentence would be lightened to him, however that has not happened. Minsk city court upheld the verdict.

“I understand that the court has no say in this matter – it is a political decision. And the decision concerning the sentence to Alyaksandr would be adopted at the political level. It is obvious. However, we shall appeal against the decision of the court of cassation in the Supreme Court of Belarus,” Korsak noted.

She also says that Atroshchankau has already been transferred to “Vitsba-3” colony, where well-known oppositional politicians, including the candidate in the presidential election in 2006 Alyaksandr Kazulin and a deputy of the Chamber of representatives of the 2nd convocation Syarhei Skrabets, had previously served their sentences.

On April 5 the judicial bench of Minsk city court upheld the verdicts to three persons involved in the so-called case of “mass riots” on December 19: Alyaksandr Atroshchankau, Dzmitry Novik and Alyaksandr Mauchanau. Thus, the sentences to them have taken effect.
