German MP: “Sannikov may face a dramatic prison term”

Marieluise Beck, a representative of The Greens in German Bundestag, expresses her fears.

She called Sannikov a “thorn in the side of Alyaksandr Lukashenka” and said that Andrei Sannikov, a 2010 presidential candidate, may face a “dramatic prison term”, BelaPAN reports.

Beck notes that trials over participants of “protests against the falsified presidential elections” have been conducted for the last few months. According to her, there are many facts pointing that the “violence was a provocation organized by the state” while the candidates were “calling to peaceful protests”.

“There is no other country in Europe where such wild arbitrariness reigns and democratic, and therefore, European principles are being trampled on,” the German MP said.

Sannikov is charged with violation of part 1 of article 293 of the Criminal Code (organizing mass riot). He may face up to 15 years in prison. As the politician thinks, the case is “clearly politically motivated”.
