Zmitser Bandarenka taken to hospital – “the neighbouring cell”

The political prisoner has been transferred to the prison hospital from the medical unit of the Interior Ministry’s prison due to a sharp deterioration of his health.

The wife of Zmitser Bandarenka, coordinator of European Belarus civil campaign, learnt this when she tied to pass medicines to her husband.

The republican prison hospital is located on the same address, in Valadarski Street.

“When I brought medicines for Zmitser, the deputy chief of the medical unit said he had been transferred to the republican prison hospital in Valadarski Street. He said: ‘It is close, in the neighbouring cell’. So, do they have not hospital wards but prison cells there?” Volha Bandarenka wonders.

The political prisoner’s wife said Zmitser Bandarenka wrote in his latest letter: “MRI scanning on my back showed that the situation became worse. I should see neurosurgeons. But a neurologist offered block therapy and I agreed.”

“I know for sure that he undergo IV therapy. He was also promised block therapy, this is injections into a spine area with a hernia,” Volha Bandarenka said.

We remind that Zmitser Bandarenka faced serious problems with his legs in the Interior Ministry’s prison. He wrote in letter that he needed an urgent consultation with a neurologist and hospitalization due to problems with spine. He applied to the KGB jail administration, but did not received proper medial aid there. The political prisoner can hardly move because of acute pain.

“Zmitser’s right leg is getting worse. It gets weaker, it cannot move. He suffers from constant pain in back and left leg,” Volha Bandarenka, the wife of the political prisoner said.
