Larysa Kirkevich: My son is kept in cruel conditions

The mother and the wife of Ales Kirkevich had an opportunity to see the prisoner in a penal colony in Navapolatsk.

As prisoner’s mother, Larysa Kirkevich, told Radio Racyja, the confinement and labour conditions, as well as opportunities of communication with him are very cruel and restrictive:

“He does not complain. He says he is fine. It’s difficult to say if it is true, because he perhaps does not want to upset us. He’s lostin weight much in comparison with the time when he was in the Interior Ministry’s detention facility. He is very pale. It is because of the absence of sun, fresh air, bad food. I do not know when the next visit will be permitted. It’s a long queue and we have to wait maybe till September or October. The same situation is with telephone calls. They say he must wait for his queue, but he has never phoned so far.”

The Young Front activist from Hrodna, Ales Kirkevich, was sentenced to four years in prison for a post-election demonstration. He was arrested a week after his marriage.
