Donald Tusk proposes to modernize Belarusian economy

Poland offers the EU to adopt a modernization package for Belarus.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk offered the EU heads of states at the Eastern Partnership summit in Warsaw on September 29 to adopt a modernization package for Belarus which supposes financial assistance.

As PAP news agency learnt from unofficial sources, the conditions allowing the Belarusian authorities to get the package do not contain Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s resignation. Main conditions for the aid are holding democratic parliamentary elections in compliance with the OSCE standards, launching talks with the opposition and full amnesty and rehabilitation of political prisoners, Regnum information agency informs. In exchange, the EU could consider giving financial aid to Belarus, agree on issuing an IMF loan and render support to stabilize the Belarusian ruble.
