Aleh Vouchak: The case is very secret and death punishable

A former prosecution investigator has many questions in connection with a “terrorist” from Zhlobin.

“Taking into account that the 'terrorist attack', in accordance with the official version,  was on law-enforcement officers, not ordinary policemen, it should have been be a high-profile case. But the investigation is carried out in silence. No information goes public,” a former prosecution investigator and head of Legal Assistance to Public association, Aleh Vouchak, told charter97.org.

It is unclear how the 'terrorist' appeared and who trained him, Aleh Vouchak noted. “Motives are not clear. He took five kilograms of explosives, put on a mask with Arab words and went to a police department? It's unclear why he went there, where he had explosives from, who trained him and how he was neutralized.”

Police recently began to find a lot of terrorists and explosives in the country, the former investigator says. “There were many cases recently when explosives were 'found'. They link it to activity of criminal gangs involved in trafficking in illegal migrants.”

The expert wonders how these gangs appeared. “Lukashenka said several times during the last ten years that we don't have organized crime. But it turns out now that we have channels to traffic illegal migrants to Europe. How did they appear?”

If terrorists with 5 kg of explosives can walk in towns, the secret services should answer how it happened, the human rights activist thinks. “The case is very secret and punishable by death. Public should know details of the case. If people can appear in streets with five kilograms of explosives, the secret services should answer for this. We have more law-enforcement bodies than Russia has. Belarus has five or seven organizations dealing with search procedures.”

It is possible that finding explosives and terrorists is a provocation organized by the authorities to influence EU's decision on imposing new sanctions, the expert says. “Information about detection of explosives appears from time to time. They find them in forests or in other places. But everything has relation to illegal migration channels. The EU is expected to take a decision whether to impose new sanctions on the regime. Lukashenka recently said in an interview with The Independent that Belarus defends the EU eastern borders and doesn't allow illegal migrants to enter the EU. Fight against illegal migration is financial support and a sign of close cooperation with the Interpol. The authorities want to demonstrate we control the situation and need cooperation, not sanctions.”
