They will confiscate cars from debtors straight on the road

Court officers are patrolling streets together with road police.

In the court of the Frunze district in Minsk they invented an original way of how to make the violators pay fines or alimony, Komsomolskaya Pravda in Belorussia reports.

Now every day in a patrol car together with road police there will be two court officers. While road police is checking a driver’s documents, the court officers will check the driver against their own database. There they will immediately see the amount and the article according to which the driver was fined or immediately the alimony indebtedness is shown. Although, this is only valid for the violators from the Frunze district.

- If a car is registered for a debtor, we have the right to confiscate the car right away and take it to a penalty parking. In ten days the debtor would have a right to appeal the court officer’s actions and later we sell the car, pay the debts and return the rest of the money to the owner. Also due to the new law, which entered in force 19 March 2012, a court officer has the right to take measures in order to insure the payments and temporarily restrict a debtor in his right to drive a vehicle for up to five years. In the case belongings of the debtor are found in the car, the court officer has the right to confiscate and sell it in order to offset the debt. It could be a cell phone, golden jewelry, a laptop, a recorder, - the chairman of the Minsk Frunze district’s court Iosif Mikhonski.
