Ales Byalyatski: Prison is the best place in bad times

The head of Viasna human rights centre waits for the transfer to a penal colony.

Political prisoner Pavel Sevyarynets, the co-chairman of the organizing committee to create Belarusian Christian Democracy Party (BCD), received a letter from Ales Byalyatski from Zhodzina. The letter was written on January 21.

The Viasna chairman writes he waits for the transfer, which is likely to take place in severe frosts. He notes fresh air is the thing he wants most. Byalyatski says he feels like he needs to “think and meditate”.

The BCD press service reports the tone of the letter is calm and cheerful.

Ales Byalyatski asked to send regards to Tastyana Sevyarynets.

“It’s flat calm outside prison, so prison is the best place for a human rights defender in these bad times,” Byalyatski notes.
