European Parliament President demands to free Belarusian political prisoners

Martin Schulz, the EP President, and Stefan Füle, the EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy, have had a meeting today.

They discussed the situation in Belarus. Martin Schulz made a statement after the meeting, Euroradio reports.

He said he was appalled by the deteriorating situation in Belarus regarding human rights and polittical freedoms. The EP President calls to free Syarhei Kavalenka, who has been on hunger strike in custody. The Belarusian authorities will have blood on their hands if he dies, Martin Schulz notes. He also called on official Minsk to release other political prisoners.
