On March 14, activists of Zmena, the youth wing of Tell the Truth campaign, held a political performance “Trash heap of history” in front of the Belarusian Philharmonic Society building in Minsk centre.

The performance took place in spite of increasing repression against young activists – Pavel Vinahradau (sentenced to 9 days in custody) and Alyaksandr Artsybashau, who spent 17 days behind bars, the press service of Tell the Trugh campaign says.

Zmena activists say the performance shows that power will go to other people sooner or later however much certain persons cling to it: “All power in Belarus belongs to one person for the last 18 years. Judging by the results of the recent election, Russia has also chosen this way. Sooner or later, such “long playing presidents” will be thrown to the trash heap of history in the same way as we throw our old shoes to the rubbish bin.”

Felt boots with portraits of the heads of states and the heap of old footwear were taken away by police after 30 minutes. No one was detained.
