Syarhei Kavalenka survives murder attempt

There was an attempt to kill political prisoner Syarhei Kavalenka during his hunger strike.

The incident took place when he was in the Republican Prison Hospital at the detention facility of the Internal Affairs Ministry, Radio Racja reports. The wife of the political prisoner, Alena Kavalenka, heard the news from reliable sources.

“Strong well-built men were placed in a cell with him. One of them weighting about 130 kg began to sneer at hunger strike and humiliate Syarhei. Syarhei punched him in his place and he began to strangle  Syarhei, who weighted a bit more than 50 kg. Police were called. Syarhei is constantly facing provocations,” she said.

Alena Kavalenka said they are trying to destroy her husband physically and morally. She is going to apply to prosecutors over the attempt upon her husband's life and torturing.

“He stays alive in prison only due to his strong spirit. He has no physical force any more,” Alena Kavalenka says. She visited her husband on April 30 at the guarded department of Navinki psychiatric hospital, where Syarhei Kavalenka undergoes expert's evaluation. It's possible he will be transferred to a penal colony on May 2.
