Bicycle racer smashed on the concrete track (Photo)

Evening, May 23, 20-year-old Belarusian bicycle racer Paulina Zhuk died in hospital of the city of Tula.

May 22, she received a traumatic brain injury in international competition "Grand Prix of Tula." According to the main coach on cycling at the Ministry of Sports and Tourism of Belarus, Anatoli Miklashevich, the athlete's body will be taken to Belarus by night on May 24.

"Today, 13:00, Tula physicians will prepare all the documents, and at night the body of the athlete will be taken home in Brest. As for the funeral, the date will be decided by the natives of Paulina," he said, reports BelTA.

Paulina Zhuk fell badly in the evening on May 22 at the time of the competition "Grand Prix of Tula." She hit her head on the concrete surface track. Belarusian was taken to a local hospital, where she was operated on. However, after surgery, her condition was regarded as serious, she was in a coma.

"The track in Tula meets all the necessary parameters, so there are no complaints to organizers. Severe trauma can also be obtained on the track with a wooden cover, although the impact of the concrete will, of course, be tougher," said Anatoli Miklashevich.
