BPF: An ally on the "dictatorial International" comes to Lukashenko

5

Deputy Chairman of the BPF Igor Lialkou condemned the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Minsk on behalf of the party.

This was reported to Telegraf by BPF. He assessed the meeting of President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and his Russian partner as a vivid evidence of the effectiveness of "dictatorial International," whose members support one another in the political repression against the opposition activists.

"Any increase in contacts of the official Minsk with the Kremlin has always meant a strengthening of political repression and persecution of dissidents for the Belarusian people. The visit of Russian President Putin to Minsk on May 31 - June 1 has become the reason for the large-scale repression against the Young Front activists and other democratic organizations. About ten people have already been "preventively" punished on ludicrous charges, while administrative arrests and detentions are still going on. According to the press reports, an unnamed KGB agent told one of the detainees about the real cause of these events: "As long as Putin is here – you’ll be jailed!" said the politician.

According to him, "total political and economic dependence of the official Minsk on the Kremlin's support provides Lukashenko's support of imperial policy by the Russian authorities."

Igor Lialkou pointed out to the inappropriate visit of Vladimir Putin against the background of Russia’s persecution of activists of Irkutsk society of Belarusian culture named after Yan Cherski. He called on Russian authorities to cease harassment of Belarusian activists and demanded from the Belarusian authorities to stop using "administrative proceedings for the purposes of political repressions against the Belarusian youth activists."

The Belarusian authorities are excited because of the arrival of Russian President Vladimir Putin in Minsk. This was stated by head of the Belarusian Council of Ministers Mikhail Miasnikovich during the conversation with the Russian prime minister in Turkmenistan on May 29.

In turn, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said on May 29 that he intended to discuss the development prospects of the Belarusian Potash Company with his Russian counterpart in Minsk.

Meanwhile, assistant to the President of Russia, Yuri Ushakov, said on May 30 that Vladimir Putin was going to discuss the entire spectrum of bilateral relations at a meeting with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk. According to him, a lot of attention will be attached to economic issues during the talks, while the whole meeting will be held in an informal atmosphere in a one-on-one format.
