Hrodna policemen run abroad

The number of law enforcement officers running abroad from the Hrodna region has increased.

The Hrodna division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is excited by rumours about a mysterious disappearance of a policeman. There are different versions of the incident – from kidnapping to murder or escape.

News about disappearance of a police officer was appeared in Hrodna in late April. Many people worry about him spreading rumours he disappeared in connection with investigation of crimes committed by KGB officers.

His family says he did not fear the KGB and investigated a case in 2009 with Baikova. But the KGB version can hardly been confirmed, because Syarhei Mashnin worked as a polygraph examiner. He did not occupy a senior position in Hrodna.

As “Belorusski Partizan” has learned, an internal investigation over disappearance was launched. The investigation revealed he had sold his flat the month before running away and disappeared without saying good-bye to anyone. There are suspicions he left for Russia.

The investigation was completed and the minister was informed about the results. There was an order to hide this information to prevent police chiefs in the Hrodna region from firing.

He is not the first policeman in Hrodna who has fled abroad.

In 2007, a police officer applied for asylum in Ireland. Officer of the Voranava police department Myalko and his family went Russia and then to Ireland to apply for political asylum there.
