Statkevich does not receive newspapers in prison

The political prisoner continues to struggle for the press. He is subscribed to newspapers, but cannot  cannot receive them for several months.

He filed claims to the prosecutor's office complaining about prison officers, who lay hands on his property, Radio Svaboda reports. A lawyer visited Mikalai Statkevich on Friday, political prisoner's wife Maryna Adamovich says.

“He works in prison. He works only with his cell-mate. This is unusual for a prison. They work with rubber. He gets 'huge' salary – about 300 Belarusian rubles per day. Mikalai say did not refuse to work because he wants the labour legislation relating to minimum wages to be observed. Time runs faster at work. At a meeting with me, he said the theme on raising minimum wages disappeared, but he seems to raise the question again after the meeting.”
