Sacked activist not allowed to hold picket

On June 18, activist Ryhor Hryk received a letter signed by Kastyukevich, a deputy chairman of the Baranavichy city executive committee.
The letter informs the Baranavichy city executive committee does not permit to carry out a picket in the old city park on June 24, 2012 referring to the law on holding mass events. The city authorities think the applicant violates article 6 of the law. However, officer of the ideological department Syarhei Pyatihorau refused to say which particular provision of law the applicant violated, Viasna human rights centre reports.
Ryhor Hryk wanted to hold a picket with a slogan “Stop repression by authorities and officials:. On June 8, activist Ryhor Hryk received a written notification a labour contract would not be prolonged with him on June 30. Ryhor Hryk thinks he is fired from the Baranavichy Auto Aggregate Plant for his solid citizenship and protection of workers' rights.
