Former prisoner opens fire at bus stop in Minsk

A Minsk dweller began to shoot in the air and then at cars.

Police detained a resident of Minsk, 25, at a bus stop as he was threatening an old man with a gun.

Police Major Viktar Kardash was driving his private car on Rokossovsky Avenue to his work at about 6:30 pm. He stopped at the traffic lights and heard cries for help, “Help! He's got a gun, call police!”, the press service of the Security Department of the Interior Ministry reports.

Scared people were running up and down the street not daring to approach a guy, who put a pneumatic gun against the head of an old man. He was shouting at the man demanding to return his belongings. Having no idea of what was going on, the pensioner was trying to calm the hooligan.

Eyewitness say the young man was shooting in the air from a pneumatic gun for a long time. When he became bored, he began to shoot at cars passing by. He then suddenly attacked an old man who was waiting for a trolleybus.

The policeman appeared in time, when the lad began to show aggression towards other people. The police officer managed to neutralize the ruffian. Police arrived in some minutes. Witnesses don't doubt the young man was inadequate. He was turned out to have been imprisoned for a car theft and released on parole nine days ago.
