Underage opposition activists to be sent to correctional facilities?

Lukashenka signed scandalous amendments to the law on the fundamental measures to prevent child neglect and juvenile delequency.

The amended law considerably extends the list of grounds to send minors to special schools, special colleges and correctional facilities, Narodnaya Volya newspaper writes.

Earlier, these measures could be applied only for committing socially-dangerous acts violating the Criminal Code. Now, administrative offences (such as petty stealing, prostituting or being drunk in public) were added to the list. However, three detentions for disorderly conduct (Belarusian police hear swearing from everyone and widely use this accusation) will be enough to send minors to a correctional facility.

The Belarusian legislation invented a method to neutralize all dissidents over 11. Earlier, politically active teens under the age of administrative responsibility were released from police departments escorted by their parents.
