An activist of European Belarus civil campaign was brutally beaten up by officers of the security department.

The Pershamaiski district court began hearing an administrative case against European Belarus activist Andrei Molchan, who was detained by police on July 14, The court heard Molchan's evidence. The trial was postponed until July 24 because witnesses from police failed to appear before the court. Molchan was released.

The activist was detained in early hours of July 14, Saturday, in Uruchcha city district. He is said to have pasting a sticker “No to death penalty” under the bridge. Andrei told Radio Svaboda he had been punched in his head and kidneys. He says his hearing worsened.

He is said to have pasting a sticker “No to death penalty” under the bridge.  He is accused of violating article 23.14 of the Code of Administrative Offences (violation of rules of city landscaping) and article 17.1 (disorderly conduct).

Andrei Molchan was fined 8 basic units by the Pershamaiski district court last week.

On May 19, the young man raised a national flag near Pershamaiski supermarket in Minsk to show his solidarity with political prisoner Syarhei Kavalenka. Police officers attacked him, snatched flag out of his hands, knocked him down and began to beat. The activist was thrown in a police car, where beating continued. Molchan came around in a police department. Policemen had to call an ambulance and took Molchan to a hospital.
